Our mission

The first step in sore prevention is to reduce or eliminate the cause, ie, pressure & misalignment. Our mission is to manufacture specialized support surfaces for wheelchairs and bedding , which can maintain tissues at pressures below 30 mm Hg. Other support for feet allows ambulatory improvements. Through its unique approach, Ergomedic uses flexible pressure sensors as well as CMM scanning technologies, in order to create products that are perfectly adapted to a person's own morphology and body biomechanic. Those technologies combine precision mechanics with optics, electronics, electrics, sensors, computers and advanced software to provide accurate dimensional data.

Precise analysis allows to provide our clients with products giving optimal comfort through pressure point redistribution as well as physical material analysis. The optimal shape is then sent by Internet to a highly precise numerically controlled manufacturing site (CNC) combine with other CAD/CAM technologies. Our laboratory offer a 5 days service or less.

About the Pressure Sores

Two thirds of pressure sores occur in patients older than 70 years. The prevalence rate in nursing homes is estimated to be 17-28%. The cost of that problem was over 8 billions dollars last years in United States.

Among patients who are neurologically impaired, pressure sores occur with an annual incidence of 5-8%, with lifetime risk estimated to be 25-85%. Moreover, pressure sores are listed as the direct cause of death in 7-8% of all paraplegics.

Patients hospitalized with acute illness have an incidence rate of pressure sores of 3-11%.

Disturbingly, even with current medical and surgical therapies, patients who achieve a healed wound have recurrence rates of as high as 90%.

1/29/2007 Sun-Sentinel - South Florida

MIAMI -- With sheer determination, wheelchair racer Renzo Martinez of Boca Raton not only finished Sunday's fifth annual ING Miami Marathon with one tire, but won it.

Early in the race, Martinez used his lone spare to repair a flat right tire. With eight miles to go, the left tire went flat on the rain-slick course.

With his grip "already diminished 50 percent" and his chair heavier to maneuver because of a 20-minute downpour at the start of the race, Martinez took the lead and defended his push rim title in 2 hours, 39 minutes for 26.2 miles.

"I knew it was going to be tough enough for me without two blown tires and rain," Martinez said. "It was just about finishing the race. I wanted to finish what I started."

Martinez, 42, started racing eight years ago, 10 years after he suffered a spinal cord injury in an off-road race in the Dominican Republic, where he grew up.

"Running a marathon is not about the legs ... it's the mind," he said. "I almost gave up after my second flat. One flat will get you down, two flats feel like you hit rock bottom.

"But then your perspective changes ... you get these fangs and claws and you say, `You're going to have to take it away from me.' I kept pushing harder and looking over my shoulder. It was worth it, even though I am dying right now."

Martinez was among a record 11,665 athletes at the marathon and half-marathon, including 52 wheelchair racers. Many were from the Avis Achilles Freedom Team of wounded veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. The sight of them at the starting line was inspiring, he said.
